Open Submissions

We open submissions to writers regularly throughout the year, looking for stories to feature in a range of our print titles, as well as our monthly fiction newsletter. We add new calls here all the time, so make sure to keep checking. You can also sign up to our newsletter and follow us on social media @flametreepress, so you never miss anything!

Gothic Fantasy Series

• Africanfuturism Short Stories – Deadline 2nd November 2025 
  • Stories should be set in and about Africa – whether that's a future Africa, an alternative Africa or a parallel Africa, the choice is yours. The genre implies a lean towards science fiction rather than fantasy, and towards positive scenarios and concepts, but of course is open to interpretation.

Myths, Gods & Immortals Series

• Helen of Troy – Deadline 9th November 2025
  • Whether you explore her beauty as a heavy burden, or the various classical viewpoints of her motivations and morality, or develop a whole new history, path to tread or time to inhabit, nonw it is your chance to delve deeper into the character and backstory of Helen.
• Gilgamesh – Deadline 9th November 2025
  • We are seeking stories, fresh with insight and inventiveness, that really interrogate this ancient hero from Mesopotamian mythology, and all his flaws, traits and relationships.

Romantic Fantasy Short Stories Series

• Call for Illustrators – Deadline 29th October
  • We are looking for line drawings to feature within the pages of the first two books in our brand new Romantic Fantasy series, A Breath of Time and Of Love & Dragons
• Of Blood & Petals – Deadline 10th November
  • We want stories where love and loss are inseparable, where petals fall like vows, fragile, fleeting, unforgettable.
• The Tarot of Love – Deadline 10th November
  • The Lovers Tarot card can signify attraction, love, and commitment, but reversed, it may represent failure and foolishness. Which fate will it be?
